Call of articles to the special volume João Barbosa Rodrigues, knowledge and practices to be published within the scope of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the botanist.

The Rodriguésia, journal of the Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (JBRJ) since its creation in 1935, besides publishing scientific results from different researchers inside and outside the country, highlights the life and work of botanists who were important to JBRJ. Volumes like the one dedicated to the botanist Ducke and his works in the Amazon, as an example.

The fact is that in 1942, the journal dedicated an issue to the memory of the 100th anniversary of the birth of João Barbosa Rodrigues. There were Alpheu Domingues, Wanderbilt Duarte, Othon Machado, all of them underlining the importance of the botanist.

Such records allow us to infer about the life of the botanist as well as the institutional history and the history of botany and, more recently, environmental history.

The plurality of interests that Barbosa Rodrigues demonstrated in works and actions such as geology, taxonomy, participation in congresses, organization of museums and herbariums, among others, invites us to propose different perspectives on his work and life.

The botanist João Barbosa Rodrigues, 180 years after his birth, is an excellent excuse to bring these important themes to the country at the moment.

The papers must be submitted electronically on the journal's platform until December 10th, 2021, in order to be published by the end of 2022. Submissions can already be made, and the submission letter must indicate that the manuscript is part of the special volume.
